Its time to think differently...

Shaking up the UK supply chain

The Port of Liverpool has the capability to transform the current and dated UK shipping model. A modern, technologically advanced facility located at the centre of the UK, Liverpool provides better access to logistics and distribution centres in the Midlands, Scotland and Ireland.

Our container terminals are designed to serve the needs of the retail sector and cargo owners, and best placed to support next day delivery, as orders placed by 10pm can be picked and loaded by 2am, and delivered to regional distribution centres as far as London by 6am the next day.

The Irish Sea Hub Advantage

As a more sustainable alternative to the traditional and congested southern UK routes, our ports of Liverpool, Clydeport and Dublin Container Terminal, provide retailers and cargo owners with greater flexibility and choice in optimising their cargo flows into the UK – by getting closer to the end destination, by sea.

Retailers can green up their supply chains, using the Irish Hub to remove trucks off the road, reducing road miles, congestion and avoiding costly delays.

The 60/90 Dilemma

90% of all UK deep-sea containerised goods arrive here through southern ports, yet 60% of those goods are headed north of Birmingham, creating long road journeys to get them to their end destination.

That means huge greenhouse gas emissions from trucks travelling the length and breadth of the country – not to mention inefficiency, congestion and delays in the retail supply chain. Unfortunately, these are symptoms of an “it’s always been done this way” mentality. But what if we could bring those goods closer to their end destinations by sea instead of road – and what would that mean for the UK’s retail supply chain?
