Suppliers

Our supply chain plays a vital role in supporting our mission to deliver an efficient service to our customers and meet our ambitious growth targets.

Our supply chain

Our Group Supply Chain function is responsible for the sourcing and management of all suppliers to Peel Ports Group.

We split our supply chain into three categories; construction and civil engineering; general operations and corporate operations.

Within these categories our main areas of spend are construction, dredging, third party operational labour, wheeled assets and marine services such as navigation and pilotage.

Because of the dynamic nature of our supply chain, there are frequently new opportunities to work with us.

How we buy

We utilise a wide range of routes to market, including those specifically designed to cater for the fact that our Group contains a number of Statutory Harbour Authorities (SHAs) who are subject to specific regulatory requirements:

  • Contract Notices via the UK Governments Find a Tender Service (FTS)
  • Achilles UVDB qualification system
  • Dynamic Purchasing Systems
  • eAuctions
  • Collaborative Procurement
Long-term vision.

Our contracting approach focuses on securing long term, sustainable value either via frameworks or service specific contracts and where appropriate we look to procure at a Group level to ensure consistency and standardisation across all our locations.

Our choice of suppliers and the processes we use always ensure we consider ethical and transparency considerations and are based on the following key areas:

  • Health and Safety
  • Technical expertise and experience
  • Whole Life Cost
  • Sustainability
  • Innovation

Supplier Relationships

Peel Ports Group strives to achieve mutually beneficial supplier relationships which are built on common values and the highest standards of behaviour.

Our values apply to everything we do across Peel Ports Group, including how we select, appoint and work with our supply chain.

Innovation.

We see innovation as a strategic enabler to ensure our business is sustainable in the long term, be that ethically, environmentally or commercially.

Attracting and introducing innovation into our business, especially through our supply chain, is a key strategic focus for us as we look to deliver our customer commitments in a responsible way.

Sustainability.

Suppliers must have clear procedures in place to ensure that direct and indirect environmental impacts associated with the goods and services they supply are understood, measured and managed. All of our suppliers must commit to and support the social and environmental aims and objectives as included within our Sustainable Supply Chain Policy.

A sustainable supply chain must consider ethical, social and environmental factors including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Environment
  • Ethical Business
  • Human Rights and Labour Practices
  • Local Community and SMEs
  • Innovation

These areas are all covered within our Sustainable Supply Chain policy, which is available in our Documents section.
