Partnership aims for record year as it pioneers efforts to help feed the nation

Background

DACSA, a global food ingredients supplier, has been operating within the Port of Liverpool for nearly two decades. Since joining forces with Peel Ports in October 2005, DACSA has used the port's facilities to store and process essential ingredients such as rice, corn and maize. Over the years, this collaboration has been central to DACSA's mission of providing high-quality food ingredients to major brands such as Kellogg's, playing a key role in feeding the nation.

Marking DACSA’s first acquisition outside of Spain, the grain terminal at the Port of Liverpool has a rich 53-year history. Originally built in 1971 by Kellogg's with two grain silos at the Royal Seaforth Dock, it has since evolved into a pivotal site for the UK's food supply chain. A third silo was added to the plant in 1999, further enhancing its capacity and capability.

Challenge

In 2023, DACSA achieved a record-breaking milestone, with over 200,000 tonnes of food ingredients  produce entering the UK via the Port of Liverpool. As the company set its sights on surpassing this achievement in the following year, the challenge lay in maintaining and enhancing the efficiency of its supply chain while operating at greater scale.

This required seamless coordination between storage, processing, and distribution operations to meet the current and growing demands of the UK’s food sector. At the same time, ensuring the integrity and quality of their ingredients, was crucial to DACSA's continued success.

Outcome

DACSA's longstanding partnership with Peel Ports proved instrumental. Peel Ports provided DACSA with dedicated facilities, including specialised silos for storage and advanced grain conditioning processes. The port-centric logistics offered by Peel Ports streamlined DACSA's supply chain by centralising key operations at the port, so enhancing efficiency. Additionally, value-added services such as inventory management, customs clearance, and real-time stock visibility further supported DACSA's operations.

The location of the Port of Liverpool enabled fast and reliable distribution to key processing facilities, including those of Kellogg’s in Manchester. This collaboration allowed DACSA to maintain the high standards expected by their customers and positioned the company to achieve another record-breaking year.

DACSA and Peel Ports’ ongoing partnership, built on mutual trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence, is set to continue for many years to come.

Paco Marti, Corporate Quality and Food Safety, said: “Peel Ports are essential in helping us to meet our aims.
