Welcome to the new edition of the Port Direct newsletter, we hope you enjoy reading our latest containerised cargo news and updates.
Peel Ports Group COO, David Huck, argues that the UK's reliance on southern ports is hindering growth and increasing trade costs.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, David discussed how promoting northern ports like Liverpool could alleviate congestion and reduce carbon emissions, saving billions in UK infrastructure spending.
David's message calls for a strategic shift to balance cargo flows between the south and the north, emphasising that moving cargo closer to consumption points would benefit both the economy and environment.

TK Maxx are the latest in a number of retailers who are now bringing cargo from Asia into the port of Liverpool thereby benefiting from a 2 PUK strategy where stock is arriving into both the North and South of the UK
By spreading their risk of bringing cargo into Liverpool they improve their stock accessibility and availability.
As an example, a recent challenge saw a number of TK Maxx containers that were in Felixstowe failing to deliver the next day. A quick call to our dedicated Port of Liverpool customer service team saw booking slots that would have been missed fulfilled by cargo that was in Liverpool.
This is what the Port of Liverpool port can do - fast and responsive service, with quick accessibility of containers allowing for improved stock availability
“We managed to fill some of our failures from Felixstowe with containers that were at Liverpool port, this incident opened our eyes even further to the 2PUK Strategy of having stock available in both the South and North” - TK Maxx representative.
