Our investments in infrastructure have played a key role in our resiliency as a business over the last ten years and we are proud to have achieved 10% annual compound growth year over this period.
We have invested over £1billion into key projects across the group to future proof the business in the local areas in which we operate, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs and business opportunities.
Some of our highlight investments include:
Liverpool2, a £400m investment to expand the UK’s largest transatlantic port and create one of Europe’s most advanced deep-water container terminals. This terminal has transformed the Port of Liverpool which now welcomes some of the largest vessels in the world, opening up import and export trade opportunities.
A £100m investment on a custom-built biomass import terminal now provides a robust and reliable supply chain for Drax Group plc. The terminal includes a new rail loading facility and storage for up to 100,000 tonnes and provides a sustainable, all rail solution from the West to the East coast.
The 1000 acre Hunterston PARC, just 40 minutes from Glasgow, and officially one of Britain’s flagship inward investment opportunities, offers unparallel redevelopment opportunities. Our vision to see this as an exciting Energy and Marine campus will bring together cutting edge world class operators, universities and innovators to deliver technological advances in power generation and aquaculture.
FOR EVERY £1 in GVA DIRECTLY CONTRIBUTED BY OUR PORTS, A FURTHER £2.15 IN GVA IS GENERATED ACROSS THE WIDER UK ECONOMY
Our ports today provide much more than a ship to shore service, we work with cargo owners, shipping lines and logistics providers to deliver sustainable port-centric solutions for any commodity at any time, across our 7 strategic locations.
Our commitment into expanding rail connections and multimodal services now enable our customers to move goods faster, with greater flexibility and with lower carbon emissions.
Our investments have resulted in 1000s of new, high-quality, skilled job opportunities for people living in and around coastal communities across the UK. People from different backgrounds thrive in their careers at our ports, a third living within close proximity of our port locations. We provide training, development and apprenticeship opportunities for many roles, from marine, engineering, pilotage and stevedoring to HR, IT and accountancy.

The sustainable nature of investments into science and research means we have been able to gradually decarbonise our operations and support our port user network in reducing their own costs, congestion and carbon emissions.
Our market-leading approach to tackling climate change and becoming carbon neutral has meant we are now working to deliver net zero port operations by 2040.
