Peel Ports Group Supports MyMCT

13 November 2024

The apprenticeship levy, introduced in 2017, aims to boost the number of apprenticeships across the UK. Large employers with a payroll exceeding £3 million contribute 0.5% of their total payroll into a digital levy fund. This fund is then used internally to finance apprenticeship qualifications for both new recruits and existing team members at Peel Ports Group.

Currently, we have over 100 employees on apprenticeship journeys, pursuing qualifications in diverse fields such as Engineering, Procurement, Port Operations, Cyber Security, and more.

As a levy-paying employer, we also have the opportunity to share part of our levy with charities and smaller organisations that do not qualify to pay into the digital fund. By doing so, we can fully fund qualifications for them, which they would otherwise have to finance themselves. This initiative aligns with our ESG strategy and community support goals.

Our most recent charity partner is MyMCT and with this approach, we are not only supporting the development of our employees but also delivering on our commitment to the community.

MyMCT, a multi award-winning social enterprise, who are passionate about empowering disadvantaged and disengaged young people across the Liverpool City Region, giving them the skills, confidence, and support they need to achieve their business and career ambitions.

Driven by a belief in the potential within every young person, MyMCT creates inclusive spaces where young people can rise above their circumstances, find their unique path, and achieve their ambitions. With a focus on nurturing talent and breaking down barriers, MyMCT is dedicated to building a community where no one’s future is limited by their past.

By delivering programmes that offer personal growth, employment pathways, and access to education and training opportunities, MyMCT not only supports young people but also contributes to the local economy. They measure success not only in outcomes but in the real social and economic impact felt by families and communities alike.

With every positive destination reached, MyMCT strengthens its commitment to expanding social mobility, creating lasting social value, and transforming lives across the Liverpool City Region.

Through our Apprenticeship Levy we have sponsored two of their team to complete Level 6 management qualifications.

  • Gregory (Greg) Jones - Development Officer (Digital Hub)
  • Phoebe Cook - Development Officer (Employment Hub)

Statement Claire McKay, Head of Learning and Development, Peel Ports Group:

Skills for today and skills for our future, not only applies to us here at Peel Ports Group, but also in our wider communities.

We are proud to work in partnership with MyMCT and help develop the skills of their workforce, who make a significant impact on the young people they engage with. This very much aligns with our values, ED&I objectives and ESG principles, and we are proud to sponsor them for this reason.

We look forward to supporting their team members journey and hearing more about their success in the near future.

Statement Kevin Rogers CEO, MyMCT:

"We’re thrilled to partner with Peel Ports Group through their Apprenticeship Levy funding, which supports MyMCT’s vision to meet the growing demand for youth empowerment in the Liverpool City Region. This investment comes at a critical time as we expand our reach, grow our programmes, and offer our team members new opportunities to develop skills that will drive both their professional growth and the organisation’s impact.

At MyMCT, we’re committed to helping every young person find a pathway to success, regardless of their circumstances. This partnership enables our team to advance their own qualifications, giving them the tools to make an even greater impact on the young people we serve. Together with Peel Ports, we’re creating lasting social value, enhancing social mobility, and generating economic benefit across the community.

We look forward to seeing how this support fuels our team’s journey and strengthens our ability to unlock potential, bridge opportunity gaps, and drive positive change."
