What is your job title?
Head of Sales – South East Cluster.
How long have you worked for Peel Ports?
June 2021, so about five months ago.
Tell us about your career to date?
I have always had an interest in sales and believe people buy from people they like and trust. My sales career started in IT selling entire computer networks for education. This IT background allowed me to move from hardware to software, where I advised and supported very small to very large organisations. I sold a software package to a large UK-based company I got on with so well, and they offered me a position that I accepted. This opportunity opened many different industry doors, including construction. I got to work for many of the large, tier 1 contractors, and I am pleased to say many of these I still speak with today. This journey brings me to the perfect role I have now, looking after the South East Cluster, introducing many of my previous Construction companies to the ports and joining up the dots. I may only play a small part, but it feels like I am supporting both the shipping and construction industry, which is a great opportunity.
What does your role entail, and how does this add value to the business?
As the Head of Sales for the South East Cluster, I look after many of our large, long-term accounts and look for our next future customers. I also have a great team looking after the day to day sales and support of the ports and do all I can to support them when needed.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I am sure it has been said before, but no day is ever the same. One day you could be talking bananas and the following explosives. The people I work with are also excellent. Being new to the industry, they always take the time to offer help and support, and it allows me to view things with a fresh perspective to see if we can work with our customers more efficiently.
What should customers come to you for?
If a customer were looking for the most cost-effective, least amount of hassle with good communication way to move their goods, I would say you have the right man. I like to make things as clean and straightforward as possible, so I take their requirements, pull in the team to make it happen and hopefully, a positive, seamless experience will want the customer to come back again and again.
